Okay so…This is a test about the gestural sculpting exercice in 30 minuts
Obviously this is… humm… how can i say… Ugly ^^?
I didn’t posted it as a submission, this is far from the level of details asked. So I just post it here to share what my first try was look like and i’ll give it another try soon 🙂
@jalexm thanks for your answer i will try it i think =)
@jalexm Thanks for your feedback 🙂
Can you talk a bit more about your experience with Scott Eaton’s course ?
I’m very interessed by it and i think it can help me. =)
@cptken thanks a lot ken that’s what i felt after a few days of training…
I was like… there must be a qwicker way to go…
I felt like bones and muscles are good to know WHY the human body looks like that but you dont have to sculpt them to say “Okay i can do characters now “.
I gonna start with a bust just like kent did during the August class =)
I’m still struggling with the skull… i’m asking myself if i should continue the training of the skeleton or go directly create a bust just like Kent did.
I mean…should i continue to create skeletons to confirm i know the human anatomy (or at least the bones) ?
Or should i go through the creation of a human face and use the anatomy more as a guide rather than something i’m suppose to master?
@smurfmier1985
Haha yes the gesturl sculptin definitly pushed me here ^^ Thanks miranda 😉
@gradyp Thanks for the advices 🙂 I will not take 30 minuts to do the whole body with muscles and everything, it’s just a limit for me to keep a bit of pressure and push myself to give the best of me.
Honestly if i dont have this kind of training i feel like a slowpoke ^^’
Does anyone have an idea for how to start to sculpt the skull ? @nekronavt maybe? ^^’.
I start with this basemesh for now:
and after a sculpt it looks like this:
I don’t know if there is a better method than mine, i’m not very good at hard surface modeling.
I try to do my best to respect each proportions (even if i still have work to do here ^^)
@nekronavt @cptken
Thanks for the recommandations i gonna try this book i guess 🙂
@cptken You’re right doing it fast can be unproductive to certain persons.
For my personal case i separate the practice (the 30 minutes challenge) from the theory:
I study the anatomy through a book (Human anatomy for artist by eliott goldfinger), and i see some videos to see how others are sculpting the parts that i need (even with clay).
Then after, i challenge myself to practice what i’ve seen.
30 minuts are perfect for me because it’s a short period of time, it will make me mistakes (at least at the begining) and after this, i’ll be able to see my result and say…Okay what i’ve done wrong? what i need to improve?
And when i find the answers….
I gonna do it again and try to not do the same errors…
This is my personnal way to train: Try, make mistakes, learn from them and re-try until you got it ! 🙂
@silentheart00 Haha no problem ^^
There is no displacement just a procedural texture (the varonoi) that i used as a bump map too ^^
So…more cells means more bumps 😉
@gradyp @theluthier @yukinoh1989
Thanks a lot ^^i’m a BIG fan of pokemon since the begginin (i was 8 years old when it was imported in france) ^^
I think this class was really helpful for everyone ^^ in my opinion every person can learn from everyone.
Even a child can teach something to an adult so… it’s up to us to learn from others despite their level/ age or whatever 🙂
Honestly thanks i really felt like a slowpoke during thoses last months because it tooked me HOURS to create something decent.
(My previous charmeleon tooked me 4 hours…and 2 more to retopologize it) and now… i feel i finaly can create without take too much time !
This is another one: i took 40 minuts for this:
3 months ago i started what i called “the pokemon project” my goal was to learn while i was modeling pokemon… i gonna continue it ! 🙂
I’m really glad i’ve met you @yukinoh1989 seeing you progress was really inspiring 🙂
@silentheart00 Thanks silent i tried with a smaller varonoi and here is the result:
I decreased the specular of the PBR shader because it was too high for all thoses littles cells.
@theluthier Thanks kent i will continue to go deeper and faster into sculpt.
I think thats the method i prefer 🙂
@yukinoh1989 Thanks a lot to sharing your method yukino !
I tried to sculpt with your method and here is the result in 30 minutes:
This kind of result tooked me at least one hour or two before… My method wasn’t good at all !
Honestly it blows my mind to see how simple it is to sculpt from just a primitive !
I think you teached me the best tip i’ve learned into this all class x)
Wow nice mewtwo ! it’s very impressive to know it took you only a hour to make it !
What method did you use to sculpt it soo fast?
Did you start with a primitive and sculpt from it? 🙂
@swikni Thanks a lot ^^
The texture i used is a procedural texture, the varonoï 🙂
i used it in combinaison with the vertex paint to create two different area (The red skin and the white for the chest and the claws)
Here is the material:
Dont hesitate to ask any questions if you need some explanations i know it seems a little bit confusing ^^’
Week 4 Homework submission :
Hi i decided to challenge myself against my worst enemy: Time !
i had only 6 hours to create a charmeleon, retopologize it texture them and put them into a scene…
Into 6 hours i was only able to sculpt it and retopologize it.
I made the texture and the scene the next day.
Here is the result:
Yeah the landscape and the texture are very basic. i decided to not put too much time on it because for me the challenge was to realise it into 6 hours and not let myself another day to make it complete.
