Only took me about 3 weeks… but finally got through Chapter 2… Now on to texturing and materials 😀

Candy wrapper done 😀 Looks good to me.
Looking forward to this time tomorrow! I’ll have my first skin test renders 😀
Here’s a look at my skin tests. I feel like a couple of them might not have been balanced as much. I’m starting to wonder if my differences I’m seeing from the references I used in skin tone might just be due to lighting. Overall, I’m liking how this is going, but can see things that can be improved and for now, will trust the process 😀

Reran the studio 2 render with the adjustments to the strength, and it looks more in line with the others now, so that was def part of it 😀
I might actually check the balance of all of them because not only did it bring that one more in line, it made the overall tones match better to the reference 😀
Rebalanced the lighting and this looks much better overall.
Forehead I’m not super overly concerned about ATM because it will mostly be covered by the hair, but I’ll chck it after I get the hair in place in case I need to adjust stuff there. the stretching at the bottom likewise isn’t a concern. It will be under clothing. Main reason the extra base is there is because the particular character I’m doing has a lower cut top and I needed something under the outfit or you could tell where the bust ended.

wow… just looked at the first post on this iteration of this project… I’ve been working on this for a month now, slowly chipping away at it. I’ve had a few days that I know I didn’t hardly do anything and days where I may have done a bit more than usual… so rough estimate of 50-60 hours so far isn’t too much of a stretch. With watching the videos, pausing to implement, rewatching a bit I might have missed… roughly about 3-4x the video length. So right on pace. Should be a bit more than halfway I think (some of the later chapters aren’t as long as the first 3). I’ve got just under 11 hours of video left, so that’s about 40-50 hours roughly of work (estimating) which would be another week or two in order to finish this project at my current pace (as long as I don’t skip more than a few days).
I can only think of about 3-4 projects where I’ve spent this long on a single project. One was my original Spock sculpt I did after Leonard Nimoy passed away. One would have been the night time bedroom scene I did for a time change poster (which actually had a couple of iterations). And the last one would have been the rustic bedroom scene I did about 9 years ago. I had one other project I did in terms of how many days I worked on the project, but only a fraction of the total time because it was one where I only spent 15-45 minutes each day doing a sculpt to do 30 sculpts in 30 days about 12 years ago. The few other projects I spent more than a week on I didn’t put anywhere near as much time as I have on this one.
As someone with ADHD, I’m easily distractible, so to stay focused on one project is a challenge for me, but I’m staying focused on finally completing this course I’ve been wanting to do for nearly 5 years now 😀 This third chapter I’m going through now has all the work from chapter 2 starting to bear fruit and it’s exciting to see the project starting to come together 😀
Here’s today’s work… Sclera, Iris, and Meniscus.

Brow and sunken corner was bugging me, so was trying to fix it and discovered I also had an extra face on the nose, so instead of spending the night on eyelashes, I was working on fixes. Doing that really helped, I think. Should be able to get eyelashes and brows tomorrow. (or I guess.. later today 😄 )

Got the eyelashes added. Also tweaked some things to make the person feel less aged. I used the newer hair system, rather than the particle one, but still used Kent’s grooming, though I tweaked a lot of the settings to make it look more like references I found.
Only about 85% happy with this… but considering I was trying to balance Kent’s particle system with trying to figure out how to achieve similar results with the geo nodes system, I think this is at least passable as a first pass and can let this marinate a bit while I work on other parts.

Full bust so far… A bit too much in the eye kinda making it look almost like a black eye, so will tone that down and still just a couple more skin materials to go through and the shirt material. Fixed the overhang over the eye so it’s more natural and the lower lip tweaked. Seeing the multires fix on the sleeve I need to get to. But generally, liking where this is going. Going to try to finish materials by tomorrow so I can get started on the hair… which is where I think people will finally start recognizing this particular portrait.

Oh, your gettng somewhere now!
There is something wrong with the eyes, I think. They’re probably to wide open, specifically on the outer edges. Maybe it’s also that the Iris is too large (and then also the Pupil)? Check that, to make sure the size is correct.
