@thecabbagedetective I’ve put your Clank and the picture you showed us the first time next to eachother and drawn some lines to test the proportions. They don’t have the exact same posture, however it’s close enough to get an idea of the ratio you need.

I think it is indeed a bit off..  The head is pretty close, but the body is too high, it should be a bit more squarish. He’s a compact little dude 😁

      Here’s the pic:

@thecabbagedetective Also took a look at your topology, hope you don’t mind and that you can read my terrible handwriting:

I thinks that would make it all quads. Hope this is helpful!

@thecabbagedetective Is there a possibility to blur environment maps/ HDRIs/ background images in Blender or did you use another software to do that? I only found tutorials of people using Photoshop for it.

@thecabbagedetective  Thanks!! this has helped me a lot, I will do some tests in my model!

@smurfmier1985 If he removes those edges, does the sharpness in the corners stay? Thanks

@aaltuvem Yes, those stay. The edges I’m suggesting to change are not near the sharp beveled edges at the corners, but more in the middle, so those nice sharp edges should be fine 😊

@smurfmier1985 Thanks for the tips!! I will do some more tests on my side.

@smurfmier1985 Oh wow the difference is insane, feel really stupid not noticing that, thanks. Also believe it or not but there’s not a single tri on that model, they’re all quads, but they’re merely bundled together. I’ll still try applying your (or a variation of ) advice though, so thanks again.

@bsdwerbeagentur Well what I actually did in this render was to place a Plane behind the model, then give it a material with the Principled BSDF shader, ramped the Metallic to 1 and set the roughness to 0.1, which caused the HDRI to reflect in a blurry manner. Though surely you could blur the HDRI/background image with enough DoF, no? I haven’t experimented enough to find out.

@thecabbagedetective Ah now I see when you zoom in like that 😊 No probs! And no need to feel stupid, when you’re focused on the modeling part and making things nice, sometimes other things get a bit lost out of sight. Easily fixed so nothing to worry about!

Great work so far, and yea shrink wrap to stick to the base shape is a good technique specially when working on curves and spheres, but any projection will have a bit of deformation so you may need to compensate for that o nthe mesh before the project.

on the model itself I would say heads and limbs need to be a bit more bulky specially the jaw, also are you using the auto smooth?

                              Day 3 done!

@thecabbagedetective Aaron before you would touch the proportion differences of this version would like to write – that I like yours one better than the reference.

It is so cute in this format, it got an own interpretation and by that personality, looks so great

                                Day 4 done!

Well, done probably isn’t the word I’d use. “Passed by” is more appropriate, due to being so busy with other stuff I didn’t get much done. Spent my entire time taking feedback reproportioning and remodeling certain areas. Good in a way though, gives me more stuff to work on on Week 4, thereby making it feel justified that I’m dedicating a week to that. Still not completely 1:1 but I think it’s close enough so that I’m happy* with it.

Don’t forget to enable “denoising” in the scene layer panel, this could save you soooo much time in rendering! With that done, have a good one!

*pleased for like a day until I see the flaws and become overly critical

@n647 Cheers for those pointers, they helped out! And nope, never really touched it, maybe that’s something I should get around to doing…
