      @theluthier For shame, Kent!

Nah, it’s fine.  I’m sure you had other things occupying your time.

@theluthier Isnt there an option for just adding a post here, without “replying”  somebody?

Anyway, started sculpting half an hour ago, this is the beginning of my concept.

@arev ” Isnt there an option for just adding a post here, without “replying”  somebody?”

Took me a bit to find it too. 🙂  Top right corner of the screen, the “Reply to this topic” button.

@arev In the upper right corner you should see a red “Mark Spam” button and an orange “Reply to this topic” button. The orange one is what you want I believe. No worries, I find myself missing it as well.

Your sculpt is already reading like a car! 👌

Attempt #1, the nature inspiration must have been a potato 🙂
Feeling rusty with digital sculpting, but it was super fun to do again ! I’ll post some other attempts until the final submission. Boy it’s hard to get clean flat surfaces!

Ok, 2 hours of sculpt with a lot of reflection/thinking I find a first look for the “character” I was looking for 😀

So indeed sculpt helps me more than modelling for this bot, and it totally differ from the first idea I’ve got for it, but it’s cool !

Hard part is going to rounded parts to ‘squared’ to rounded while keeping the thickness. There, it’s a bit like the robot course where I should retopo/model from that base to get a proper mesh and then go back to sculpt (or kit bash) to add details.

Just to add, I’m stuck with this robot for almost 2 month going to it to try different approach but unsuccessfully. I’m really happy to have follow the class !

Taking a little bit of a break from Blender today, but hasn’t stopped me thinking about what I’ll be doing. Been thinking about some kind of scorpion tank mech thing, like a cross between The Landstalker from Ratchet: Gladiator (Deadlocked for the Americas)  and the Robo Scorpions from Fallout: New Vegas:

Also a thing I’d like to ask is would it be considered acceptable to sculpt the vehicle then retopologise it, mesh model any little details and then render them both, showing a before and after? That’s almost definitely way too much work but I thought I’d ask in case I feel almost idiotically ambitious. I don’t even know how to properly retpo haha.

                      Homework for Week 3:

Sorry I’m late, but that curved surface was driving me crazy.  I had so much trouble with it that eventually I exported it to Blender 2.8 so I could use the cursor transform orientation.  Unfortunately, it is incomplete.  I would have liked to model the whole thing on time, but I just couldn’t.  Before the class began, I had set myself a goal to get all A’s this month.  I do not think I will reach that goal.  I am not very optimistic about this week, either.  Here it is.

@theluthier Kent thanks for the grade, yesterday was not able to participate on the live stream as usual, but will watch the recorded session as usual 🙂

Anyway you guys are producing such a quality with these vehicles, would like to comment one by one but this “difficult” surface modelling was so hard on my level, that if got 20 minutes in the evening to model, then had to miss the thread and take all the 20 ones to the issues of the Taxi Checker 😀

@csehz Hi, I also missed the live stream (on flight) and would like to view the recorded video, where can I see find this?

                          thank you!

@theluthier thank you for the feedback! I’ll update and also try one day to provide materials and make a nice render 🙂 promised!

@thecabbagedetective When looking at your renders, I noticed some of the edges on the dashboard look a little sharp. Have you removed the proximity loops from the shrinkwrap vertex group? That will make sure the edges can stay smooth, even when you’re using this modifier.

@williamatics Hi William, could you please post a render or a Sketchfab link? It seems like a shame to hide your hard work behind a blend file download… Thanks 🙂

@tbrbn hahaha a potato – nah it’s reading more vehicular than a potato. And already very smooth surface 👍
