@thecabbagedetective I did notice that in your Blood Money render.  DOF most naturally happens when smaller objects are very close to the camera, so too much of it can tend to make your scene look a bit like a miniature-model set.

This scene, by the way, is incredible as usual.  I want to visit that world!  You know, when Mr. Stabby isn’t around. 🙂

@jakeblended Yeah, it’d almost make sense in this context but I think I managed to make it seem balanced.

@jakeblended Makes a good point about depth of field. It’s a slippy slope in that it can be magic to a render while it also can ruin a render if not done well. One of the common issues is things feeling miniature.

Easily the best insight I’ve had to depth of field is using a quality camera. If anyone has access to a nice camera, *play around with depth of field* for your renders’ sake.

@theluthier Gonna assume the camera on my 5 year old phone doesn’t qualify then? Haha, but yeah I think I hit a happy medium with this one (at least with the people, didn’t add any to the other one yet). Probably gonna go back to Blood Money and tone it down a bit. It’s all these little detailed parts that make or break renders and I just forget about them all lol.

@jakeblended Oh wow I didn’t even notice your compliment at the bottom, thank you very much! Sorry about that.

                @thecabbagedetective

I had edited it in after making the post, probably while you were already typing out your reply, heh.

                  Another week, another project.

The disappointment over my last piece of homework has set in now, as it usually does. Wish there were more things I did but hey-ho that’s how it goes. Onward!

Whilst the details of what I want to do are still vague I know I’m going to be modeling Clank from Ratchet… & Clank. Will I try and tell a story or just make a simple model? Who knows! Lets find out!

@thecabbagedetective I love this idea! But wow that’s a big project for one week, pretty complicated (but guess that’s only for me you got a lot more experience 🙂 )

Looking forward to seeing this evolve throughout the week 😀

I sure don’t want to come up against that robot in a duel!!

@golden-kitty Nah I’m gonna be using 2.79 for this because I have an idea for a scene that requires the smoke simulation which at the moment seems broken in 2.8 unfortunately. And trust me, this guy’s like a foot tall haha.

@smurfmier1985 With dedication I should be able to build Clank himself in a day or two. The rest of the scene I have an idea for though? That’s a different story…

                              Day 1 done!

Didn’t get too much done today admittedly, mostly a combination of not starting until the evening and spending a chunk of time making my topology go from gob-smackingly awful to pretty bad, which was a time consuming venture. Got the majority of the body done but there’s still a few details left.

One question I have to ask though (admittedly not about modeling) is how to I get the primary material looking like it does in the picture I showed a few comments ago? Crank up the roughness? Not really sure. Maybe I should try to go for chrome though? ‘Cause that’s how he looks in the PS4 game:

Not really sure, rather torn. Be sure to tell me what you think! Above all else though, have a good one and good luck on your own homework!

@thecabbagedetective Of to a good start I see 🙂 I think thinkering with  the roughness is a good starting point, that’s what I would try, but admittedly my knowledge of materials doesn’t go much further than that.. I don’t know what your end scene will be so can’t say yet which version I think I like best. Maybe you should post two WIP’s  when your almost done with both options, then we can choose 🙂

@thecabbagedetective Disappointment from last week?! Whatevs. No reason for that, sir. You did amazing work week 1.
