@duerer Are those black outlines…modeled by hand? 😳

@theluthier I have traced a scan of that coat of arms in Inkscape:

I’ve imported it as SVG file into Blender where I’ve extruded the curves for the feathers. The rings on the shield and the scroll with my family name are modeled as meshes, the scroll by conversion of the path into a mesh with some final editing (all quads for training purposes 😉).

@theluthier, @adrian2301 and @blanchsb I’ve uploaded a newer version of my part’s file with the complete coat of arms correctly colored:

PS: Saved with Blender 2.83.11 😉!

I opened your file to take a closer look, That is incredible artwork @duerer , and perfectly suited to your rear axle. 👌Outstanding.

And a special “Halloween Edition” of my rear axle starring “Werewolf Pete”:

Thanks, @adrian2301, I’m proud to be a member of the team that created our “DOG” 😀👍! All members together have created an outstanding artwork 👑🏆and I can barely wait to see our “DOG” being rigged and animated🤸‍♂️🏃‍♂️🚜!

PS: @adrian2301 Your new avatar is looking great 👀👍!

I’ve just found out that setting “View Clip Start” to 100 m  avoids any z-fighting between the coat of arms and the rear axle in the “3D Viewport’s” “Solid Viewport Shading Mode”:

That’s what the “Blender 2.90 Manual” also mentions here:

“A large clipping range will allow you to see both near and far objects, but reduces the depth precision resulting in artifacts.

In some cases, a very large range may cause operations that depend on the depth buffer to become unreliable although this depends on the graphics card and drivers.”

                  And the solution here:

I hope that this won’t be a problem with the final rendering.

PS: Interesting footnote: With “Orthographic View” the “View Clipping Start” is ignored as you can read here:

                  “Orthographic view:

The planes with distance of negative end and positive end from the focus point, in this case the Start is ignored. “

This has to do with the precision of floating point calculations in a computer; you can (simplified ) think of it like this: when you have a precision of 5 digits,  then in a range of 100 meters, you’d be able to see the difference between 5 and 6 mm, for instance. But in a range of 100 km, you only be able to differentiate between meters…

So, that’s it! “Werewolf Pete” has taken over the control:

Clear everything out of his way !!!

@theluthier I’ve found out what caused my problems with the livestreams during yesterday’s “Backhoe Livestream #8”.  It was an addon for video downloads that obviously automatically caches livestream data even if you didn’t start a record. I’ve now isolated the culprit and banned it to the digital dungeon (others would simply say “deactivated”, but this doesn’t sound dramatic enough 😉😁!) where it can stay for the time being 😉.

I’ve just seen here the Space Shuttle “Atlantis” created by Albin Merle in about 400 hours. That’s probably what I needed for my tiny rear axle 😭. Absolutely breathtaking what ONE person can achieve!

Parts of the animation are shown in the official Blender 2.9 demo reel here

The animation is not included in the 400 working hours mentioned above.
Substance Painter was used for the textures as well as UDIM textures management.
Blender Guru’s “Rock Essentials” and “Grass Essentials” are part of the landscape.

Everything has been rendered in Cycles with “heavy compositing” afterwards.
Vortex fields and Blender’s “Particle Simulation” served for creating the contrails at the wing tips.
The parachute animation used Blender’s “Cloth sim”.

One point of criticism was that you can’t change a Space Shuttle’s trajectory as quickly as in the animation since it’s not a plane with an engine.

Unbelievable detail and authenticity in that model. WOW 🤯

I wish I would have implemented a way for everyone to keep track of their time working on the DOG! That would have been a neat stat.
