I felt the same way at this point! It does get a little easier after this point, not because the content is really any easier but you learn things about the interface and the way things work that feel completely foreign right now. FWIW I learned that it helped me to first watch an entire chapter of lessons at once without pausing, then go back to the beginning of the chapter and only open Blender and follow along with the instructions the second time (or sometimes third).
Thank you so much! The whole idea makes a lot more sense now.
I think I skirted the problem re painting somehow… I had to switch into texture painting mode in the left/monkey window before painting in the right hand UV window would take effect. I’m not sure why because in the following lesson Kent is definitely in object mode when he starts painting. As for the node editor question, those windows were actually there. I saw there was a “find node” function under select, and it found them. They were way off to the side and zoomed out so far they were just specks. So crisis averted 🙂
Oh wait I think I fixed mine – we still had “shadeless” checked from a previous lesson. It looks like if you’re in Blender Render and have shadeless checked, then going between texture painting and solid in the viewport shading menu works as you said. But in Cycles Render you have to uncheck shadeless to get the same effect as solid in Blender Render.
Same problem here.
I completely agree! You really know how to phrase instructions and show very clearly and concisely how to get to the different menus, tools, dialog boxes we might need.
That is SO much better! Thank you!
Ok, I see you say this at the end of the video, but it would be really helpful to say it in the very first few seconds.
I sort of had this issue just now – at first I missed that you had selected one edge of the original ear seam before doing shift-G, seam, select, mirror.
