I used to fear Blender curves until I discovered this playlist, and it all made sense:

If you do more courses like this, please include the trick you show in one of the videos on your channel, in which you cleverly use a lattice deform to arrange plants along a wall and fold their leaves against the wall, instead of letting the leaves intersect the wall and hope nobody notices…

I think you’ll be impressed with the features starting around the 10-minute mark in the video; a few things I could have used on this project!

Also, FYI, I made the architrave profile as a closed-loop bezier, which is great practice for working with curves.

When I converted it to mesh for extrusion, the vertex spacing was perfect.

No, but I will try that, thanks Martin!

              All better now!

I appreciate everyone’s feedback.  I learn more by having to untangle my mistakes than by starting over–because sometimes you don’t realize you’ve made errors until you’re too far along to start over.

I also discovered that the UV Sync Selection is nice for troubleshooting, but does NOT regenerate every time I change seam configuration in the model, which it probably should.

Thank you very much for the detailed feedback, Sascha and Martin and Omar!  Sorry I didn’t respond earlier; I went to bed and then had an early appointment this morning.  Now I will try to fix this mess.

Sascha, those troubleshooting tool tips are great, I didn’t know about them.  Also, it’s possible I made some seam lines with F instead of J, although I make a habit of using J to draw lines across existing faces.  And I need to read more about when to use the knife tool, since I always forget about that.

I already watched the CORE tutorials many months ago, but forgot a few things, apparently.  I’ve spent the past year learning Blender, SketchUp, Twinmotion, D5, and Unreal, so things get confusing sometimes.  In some ways learning multiple apps helps me learn faster; in other ways I have to do remedial homework after awhile.

Oh, okay, so the floor is not a material to be applied, it’s just for checking orientation…

I was just going crazy with my UV unwrapping, because it came out all crooked. Then I poked around for awhile and reshaped the corner of the window trim. Then I realized that I had a face inside the trim flipped inside out.

I haven’t used Blender for a few months, and I totally forgot that I used to have Face Orientation turned on at all times!

Oh, I do have one other question: When you do UV unwraps, why is the UV background wood planks instead of a blank space?

I went to dinner, took a shower, then realized I didn’t go over the edges carefully before asking for help. I discovered that I had actually marked several seams that were not on the edge of the door and weighted them to 1, and that’s what was causing the distortion. Sometimes I can’t believe the dumb stuff I do! Every tutorial involves me thinking of more efficient ways to do a few things, combined with a few setbacks for really silly reasons…

Thank you. I just tried drag & dropping that again, but it still didn’t work. Oh well…

Ah, I’m using a Mac, so maybe the image cut & paste works differently. I did get a green “+” when I tried to drag the screenshot, which indicates a successful copy, but it didn’t appear.

I was careful to hide the sash elbow and check all the corner edges, including the one that arrow is pointing at. I’ll go back and check again. I also merged vertices after you did the extrude-normals in the video, and two were removed, so I don’t think that’s the problem. I’ll tinker with it some more…

Thanks for letting me know about uploading screenshots, that will save some time 😉

Wow, that fixed it!  Sorry, I didn’t realize the materials were competing with each other.  Copy modifiers and link materials also worked after I removed them.

Also, a quick tip for shrinking the glass: I subtracted 2mm from the X dimension in object mode and applied scale, which was quicker than trimming each end.

Oh, one more thing…I’m curious why you don’t apply rotation to the shelf pegs?

OK it works now!  I think it maybe worked before, but my eyes were expecting it to appear over or under the Bevel modifier window, and I don’t think I noticed that the window extended below the bottom of the screen, as your screen grab shows.  I’m used to the Bevel window being much smaller, but forgot I have several sub menus open that extend the window considerably.

I will pay more attention to such things before requesting help again…

                                  Thank you once more!
