@jakeblended Cool, I’m curious already to see what that’ll look like. Your male sculpt in your own polybook is already looking better than my previous attempts at similar sculpts. I’m really having a lot of trouble with the elbows / knees, so many forms and shapes weaving into eachother.

I started the ‘Realistic Characters’ modeling course. The first assignment is to sculpt three random objects to get comfortable with the sculpting in Blender. I wanted to make a little bonsai tree, gave myself a time limit but I got carried away a little. It’s not perfect from all angles yet, but it’s already a bit much. The bonsai by itself felt a bit lonely, so I gave the tree a happy little friend. I had the idea to put a little decayed shrine in front of it, so obviously it needed a little tree demon-deity thing as well.

I know the hand is really messy but the hand wasn’t even supposed to be the point so I figured this was good enough. Now onto the other two objects

I also finished up the Post-Apocalyptic Car course. I’ve discovered modeling cars isn’t really my favourite so far, but I did really enjoy decorating it with some additional stuff after the course was done.

@numbernine I can see me running over zombies in one of these things!

@straocastus Don’t forget to stick your head out the window while wearing really cool shades. At night, for maximum effect.

My third object, which turned out absolutely awful. I’m honestly chalking this up as personal win for resisting the urge to chuck myself through a window. I’m making this post to give future me a chuckle for having struggled with this.

I don’t think it’s all that bad.  In fact, I’m a little bit jealous of your skills.

@williamatics Haha, I’m always jealous of everyone else too; I don’t think that’ll ever go away. Just had a quick look through your gallery (lots of stuff by the way, nice) and the gun model looks nice! I think that was from 2018 somewhere, do you have anything recent to show off? 🙂

@numbernine Wouldn’t say it’s that awful. With a couple of touches to the proportions it would like an ancient statue of sorts 🙂 Great job on the other two, though. Good luck with the realistic character course.

Well, it’s something. Big part of my own learning process is just to keep making things even if it sometimes just doesn’t turn out the way I wanted to. Your ‘Man at Arms’ character turned out great by the way! 😀

@numbernine If you look in my polybook (which I should really update soon), you’ll see what I’m working on now.

(This is for the ‘Designing Realistic Character’ course. I’ve used a different photo set than the one supplied in the course.)

Very basic blockout with a little bit of sculpting done. I wasn’t home yesterday, planned on doing more today but procrastinated on this one. For the first time ever I’ve been really consistent, being active in Blender every single day for about 5 months now. Besides just general art skills, one of the things I’ve really been working on is to stop worrying about stuff being perfect and more just working on enjoying the process and being consistent. I’ve had a lot of fun making some of the projects so far, but I did find myself putting off the more scary things, like anatomy. Finally spent about a little over an hour (before I go to sleep) experimenting with various ways to get a good base mesh going, which I’m pretty happy with. My goal for tomorrow is to just to enjoy myself and spend a couple of hours sculpting! The original course was a workshop format, divided into several weeks. I’ve decided to follow the same deadlines as the workshop, so a week for each ‘step’. I guess I’m making good time if I keep that in mind ^_^

Made some decent progress today. I hope to get enough work done tomorrow so I can submit it in time for the free critique stream.

I spent some time refining certaining elements getting it ready for the critique stream only to find the thread had been closed several minutes earlier. Would really like to have had it critiqued on stream, I’d like to see how to improve the arms mostly. Oh well.
