Zooming Is Too Fast

Is there a way to stop zoom from going so quickly?

Not that I am aware of, but I don’t really have that problem unless I’m using a track pad or small tablet. There is a patch in the works by Pablo to make it better for those, but I don’t know exactly when it will be included in Blender. Probably 2.81. 

Also try using period on the number pad to frame your selection, which will reset the zoom and rotation if it somehow got out of whack.

You mentioned a small tablet being the issue. I am using Wacom Intuos S with my laptop.  I will give zooming with a mouse a try but switching devices to zoom certainly will put a bump in the flow of things. I’m glad a patch is in the workings.
