You said the leaf scale worked in the version of 2.8 I’m using. However I did get this http://prntscr.com/oaq0da If I delete in edit mode it deleted the leaf.

        I found the difference in Dupliverts and Dupliface.  If you use face it will scale.  If you use verts the extra faces do not show up but you have to scale the leaf itself.
