Will Course soon be updated for Versions 4 and 4.1?

Will Course soon be updated for Versions 4 and 4.1? There are shader, eevee and cycles updates that seem critical to be included here. It would be very helpful if each of your courses indicated which version of Blender they were written in. I appreciate that your students are using all the many Blender versions but as an independent artist, it would be crazy at this point to not be working and learning the new 2023-24 cycles and rendering strengths and shader options.

Maybe some Fundamentals will get updated. Furthermore new Courses will use more recent Versions, but updating all Courses would prevent new Courses to be made and to what Version should they be updated?

You talk about it, like 4.0 and 4.1 are mostly the same, but look at a small taste of the state of 4.1 at the moment:

Completely different from 4.0 already. Blender evolves too fast to update all tutorials.

Yeah I agree, Blender development moves too fast to catch up. In the time it takes to completely produce a course, Blender has changed yet again already, it’s the sad nature of the beast. It would be ideal if courses could be updated as fast as Blender, but that is too difficult to achieve. That said, it comes a time when a course is too behind that needs to get updated, but some major Blender changes are needed to justify the production time and cost.

Yeah, I agree with what has already been said. Last time I looked The developers had feature list planned out until 2028, and they have already added some new stuff put out by Pixar to the list. They are also in the early planning phase for some features that should carry out to 203X. So, don’t expect Blender to slowdown on adding new features anytime soon.

I suggested this elsewhere, so repeating, but it seems to me that it would be helpful if each course noted the version of Blender it was written for or was dated so as students we could be then be aware of inaccuracies or discrepancies we may expect to encounter and do further research on our own.   I understand that most of the base data is accurate still valid and very helpful. thx

Yeah that would be cool, to have it appear on the website in the course page. Normally what you would do is look at the bottom right corner in the video to see which version it is, but it would be way comfortable to have it quickly visible on the website.

I totally agree with you in that regard. They used to mention the Blender Version used, in the description of each Course. Now you’ll just have to watch a little bit and look at the UI….it always tells you the Blender Version used, either on the top middle (old Blender) or at the bottom right.

Hi All, I agree with you that updating all the videos would take too much time. In general, following old videos (with version 2.8 for example) and using Blender 3.6 works okish most of the time. What would help is if there is a new video explaining the differences and main features of the new versions. For example a video on how to go from 3.6 to 4.0, explaining (in the CGC kind of way, not only throwing the information but explaining where to use). This would help bridge the gap from this course to the possibilities of the new version. Would be a new course, help with all the different areas, would be interesting. I particularly open the site every day wanting to see a new popup on a course (or session) going in detail on how to go from 3.6 to 4.0.
