When I want to rerender afetr I set up the compositor with comping from a saved image, Blender no longer rerenders. Probably because the comping works from a file now and sees no need to rerender? How can I get Blender to render again? Do I need to disconnect the file reference again?

Pressing render will calculate everything going to the output of the compositor, so if the only thing connected to the output is an image it won’t render. You could either turn of compositing in the render post processing settings or plug the render layer back into the output.
