When I use vertex painting the painting is not visible in the rendered view, and is only visible when I am actually in Vertex Paint mode. How do I fix that? Do I need to apply it somehow?

Hmm good question. I’ve never actually used vertex colors by themselves for rendering…so I don’t know the answer to that question exactly. Rather I’ve always converted vertex color data into a texture by baking “Vertex colors”. I recommend watching Chapter 4 (Baking) of this course and choose “Vertex Colors” as your baking mode.
