when i click “face selection masking for painting” i cant paint, when i click it off, i can paint again… whaaaat?

If you have zero faces selected in edit mode, whenever you enable “face selection masking” you’re essentially masking off the entire model to not be painted. It should be fairly clear because your deselected faces turn grey. Try pressing A when you enable it to toggle select all.
