when i am attempting to use knife…

something. when attempting to cut faces for dent making the knife isnt snapping to the vert that i want and isnt staying on the intended surface but cutting face behind then returning to attempted surface and still not snapping? bummer cuz I already did it and the knife worked as expected then, forgot to save and now malfunctional. did I change the knife settings somehow?

If you didn’t intentionally change knife settings then they should work as expected (when they worked correctly the first time). I can confirm however that knife snapping can be a bit finicky. Sometimes I will cut and the *think* cut was exactly on an existing vertex only to realize later than it wasn’t.

Honestly it just takes some getting used to and understanding that there might be some cleanup later.
