What did you do at 1:53?

I’d like to know what happened extruding this. It seemed like happening in 1 frame.

I tried contours retopology tool but failed to install addon.

Hi there,

I was also wondering this. However, after looking around it looks like he used an in-house created CGCookie tool called RetopoFlow. It looks like we have to pay for it if we want it, we do get a discount though. 

I used extrude and rotate (around the 3D cursor) to achieve a similar, but not perfect effect.
