      Working on the Pothead Tutorial

      Pothead_Blockout

      (Side Question: Is it ok to make WIP threads for different projects? Or is it encouraged to put those somewhere else?)

        I adjusted the topology a little bit near the bottom. I managed to get it looking pretty smooth so I only had to apply the new Normals to the top part. I’m happy with it. Hope it doesn’t cause me problems later because I deviated from the tutorial…>.<

          @wendy10698,
             This looks really good!

             I haven’t gone through this tutorial yet, so I can’t comment on the geometry deviation.  Good luck with that, hope it doesn’t cause you any issues.

             I think it’d be grand to have a specific WIP place, and a “finished” gallery.  Or a way to filter by project status in the gallery.  Either way I imagine the gallery is the better spot for images and the Q&A section would be more for questions.  I’m not part of the CGCookie team; If I’m wrong here, CGCookie team, feel free to correct me.

             When I’m doing WIP I try to keep most of my updates on the original WIP posting so I’m not flooding the gallery with 20 different images of the same project.  I’m usually good about that. . . at least on a per model basis.  I admit with my “Favorite Spot” project I’ve highlighted a lot of individual models.

             Of course you have one specific question, about the WIP thread, and an implied question about the possible ramifications on your changes to the course’s geometry, so this may not be the worst place to have posted something.

            Finished the Handle and Ring

            In order to get the profile right I just ended up tracing the outline in photo.

              Screenshot from 2022-03-26 11-22-30.pngHere is an update on Pothead. It’s slow going. I’m working on the body right now which is why the switch doesn’t fit properly yet.

                When I do the inset/outset to sharpen up the top it causes this weird pinching. I tried flattening out the side but it didn’t help much. There aren’t double verts and I checked the face orientation. Screenshot from 2022-03-26 14-42-24.pngScreenshot from 2022-03-26 14-42-08.png

                  UPDATE: Added a second holding edge and that seemed to fix the problem.

                    Finished up the body and feet. Gotta work on the legs next. Pothead_Render 1.png

                    I decided to keep the feet separate from each other. I found it easier to get the shapes I wanted for each foot that way.
