The top one seems a bit too reddish, is that because you used the default Scattering Radius (1.0, 0.2, 0.1) in the SSS (which is meant for human skin)?
Ah! Guess I should have seen some reference. I had set the colour of sss to a reddish tint, with the scattering radius set to 1.

I wonder… should’nt the scattering be slightly red tinted on the second candle? Not sure I don’t use tinted candle that often 🙂

the red candles I have seen are just white candles with a paint layer on the outside.
