Some Questions about Paint Settings

Hello! I’ve never painted in a image editing software before, so I have some simple questions.
Is there a way to paint that does not cause identical overlapping paints to darken? e.g. Painting light grey on a white surface, lifting the brush, and painting on top of the same grey but with no visible effect.
Can faces/edges/vertices be displayed while painting?
What’s the best way to cover up visible seams?
Pressure painting seems possible only with a touchscreen; is it still viable to paint with just a mouse?

Hi Jared, I’m glad you’re giving it a go for the first time! 

1. Try turning your brush strength up to 1 (hotkey Shift+F)
2. Not that I am aware of, though you can turn on Face Selection Masking in the header to see which faces are masked out. 
3. By painting over those areas in the 3D view instead of the image editor
4. You can for this exercise, but it’s recommended that you get a tablet if you plan on doing any sort of painting regularly or professionally.
