I figured I would hate the new MLP movie, but I watched it today…. turns out I actually liked it. Between that and revising a couple of things that more or less made me remember why I like the show, I figured since I no longer consider Lantern Light to be a part of the fandom and therefore do not want to include her in any of the art ideas I keep coming up with, I should make a new pony. And why not use the official movie-themed pony creator to do it? It’s interesting enough. I ended up really liking what I got, so I’m going with it.

A bit of a redesign for the pony I created and drew above this one, combining that design with a previous one that I’d come up with on my own which happened to be very similar. Uh, I’m not entirely happy with these colors right now, but I don’t feel like I could do well trying to adjust them on this piece, so I will be making another one of her. She’s grown on me.

I started on this much earlier today, but thought I might work some more on it. Turns out, a lot ended up happening today so I didn’t get back to it. I definitely will, though.

And for my own reference, I used a couple of textures:

Beginnings of a new drawing, inspired by an old one.

I was going to call it done, but I just wasn’t satisfied. These are much better. I decided to upload both of the versions I liked the most here, but I am considering the short-haired version to be the official one. And do keep in mind, it is short-haired and long-haired, not male and female.

Among the many miscellaneous things I’ve found myself wanting to draw lately, an anime-style person was one of them. It’s been a while since I did anime, so I wanted to see how my style had changed since learning realistic anatomy. I had actually thought I wouldn’t be designing said anime character for a while yet, but she decided to come to me in a dream, and who’s gonna say no to that?

Might I add, what you’re seeing is not just the stylistic color choice – she is actually pure white, with the one exception of the little wing tattoos below her eyes. The wings on her back were a later addition. I did that entirely because of the colors of the wing tattoos. They are (and were within the dream as well) the very same colors as an old game item I have long since cherished – the Rebirth Wings. The wings I added to her back are those very wings.

I have been working on some stuff, but I realize I haven’t been uploading it, so here it is.

I guess this one’s sort of vent art, but mostly of an expression of my love for singing. It serves as one of the many ways lately that I’m learning that my art really doesn’t have to be inspired by dark or negative things. The specific song that inspired it is an old Inuyasha song: https://youtu.be/_eqVlxjbUpY

An update on an art trade piece.

This one is just a sketch I started up to test out a new art program called MyPaint, which looked like it could be a good replacement for Krita’s horrible instability. I got a good impression of the program while working on this piece.

My most recent endeavor, I started this piece in MyPaint only to discover that MyPaint doesn’t seem to have any selection tools and the resize option doesn’t work properly. After getting rather frustrated, I ported the thing back over to Krita and kept working from there. It’s also the first time in a while I’ve drawn with silence, and once again I found that I was able to get more into my work and have more patience for doing the details. I will be taking proper note of this for later.

                        I finished the art trade! Adding the lines back into the mane and tail only took me three full hours!;;;

While talking to a couple of people I know about the art trade piece above this one, one of these individuals was shocked to hear that it took me so long to do so little, saying “When you said it took three hours I expected to see each individual hair.” To this I grinned and retorted “I have a style that would let me do that in about twenty minutes.” I’ve known full well that I can do this since I’ve done it before, but when I realized just how long it’d been since I did I decided to “put my money where my mouth is” so-to-speak and actually do it. Guess what? I wasn’t kidding. And I didn’t use a special brush for it. I’m not done with it though, I’ll have to work on it some more tomorrow.

The style is somewhat emulating an artist I really like who goes by magicnaanavi on deviantart, but partly because I found out a while back that they actually use the same method for drawing hair that I do (but they’re better with the colors).

That’s pretty cool that you were able to capture your dream with so many details! I actually keep a dream journal by my bed so that when I wake up from a fascinating dream I write it down before I loose it. In my opinion dreams are excellent sources of inspiration.

I was trying to draw one of my ponies from PonyIsland…. It was turning out horribly, and I was getting frustrated, so I ended up deciding to do some quick sketches of actual horse photos I found on search. The first one I took the least amount of time on, the last I took the longest. They’re a bit dopey-looking, but they are intended to be warm-up sketches more than anything. Maybe it’ll help, maybe it won’t.

The warm-up sketches were for this.

Once again I had one of those spells where I just forgot to upload my work… So here’s an art dump.

I started on this one with the old Gen 3 My Little Pony toys in mind. Towards the end of that generation they started packaging the ponies in a way that mean their hair was super curly and wild straight out of the box – I never brushed some of mine specifically because I thought it looked much better than it did after they were brushed. This was intended to be the first in a series of drawings inspired by that look, but I’ve not gotten back to it yet.

This one is the first of two commissions I’ve received recently. Still working out the bugs. Fun fact, when I started this one, I accidentally drew a dragon head instead of a horse head as a result of both being rusty and still a little new to realistic horse anatomy in the face department. It’s probably the best dragon head I’ve ever drawn, though.

The idea for this one…. well, came when I was trying to design a pony on PonyIsland, and couldn’t seem to choose between two breeds. Somewhere along the line my head started to meld to the together and create some weird horse/deer/butterfly…. thing. I’ve named her Viscera, essentially the goddess of a violent end, including things like war and destruction. Not entirely sure how I feel about the design.

I really haven’t been drawing that much. I’ve been focusing on other things, namely trying to figure out how to deal with PTSD stuff correctly. I’m hoping to get my head back on straight and get through this finally.
