Sharp Edges not applying

I created a default cube and distorted it randomly, then tried Select -> Sharp Edges to get familiar with a tool that will automatically sharpen edges based on their angle.

However, no matter what angle I changed it to, 1 degree or 180 degrees, it had no effect at all. Why is this?

HI Sid, 

It Selects the Sharp Edges (based on the Angle you set), it doesn’t Sharpen Edges.

But maybe you Selected All and then Selected Sharp Edges. Try again with nothing Selected.

As Martin says, the Select menu selects stuff, it wont sharpen it. Think of it like it will select the edges it thinks most likely to be sharped by you. The sharpen operation must be done by the human.
