I’m following this short tutorial, but when I did what he did my room is still dark unlike his. (I’m brand new to blender) any help is much appreciated

        Hi Ford @Ford ,

I don’t know what you did wrong.

Try increasing the Strength of the Sun Light to something crazy like 100. See what happens.

Also if you are brand new, you shouldn’t really be doing lighting at this point. The best place to start for a comprehensive walkthrough is the Blender Basics:

When you’re done with it, then you follow up with the Fundamentals:

Thank you @Martin Bergwerf but the sun will only go up to 20 for some reason, also in his tutorial it is set to 20

@Omar Domenech Thank you I just started doing that last night and am excited to continue! I was hoping to bang this tutorial out for added motivation because I really want to make some pretty nature scenes.

              It goes way beyond 20:

Setting it higher is to see what difference it makes. Maybe there is something else wrong.

And some advice: don’t just copy all the Values as they are in a tutorial, that is a mistake beginners tend to make.

It’s good to hear you started on the Basics👍🏻

Don’t worry, you’ll get to do awesome nature scenes. It’s best to start with the foundations, or you run the risk of getting frustrated and abandoning the whole project of learning 3D, like we see happening all the time. After you have learned the “why” of things, you will be able to do all the “how”. Here at CG Cookie there’s a good balance of learning fundamental things while you have some fun creating with what you have learned, and keep the motivation going.

oooh I see how to change the sun higher, thank you!

Thank you I agree I’m definitely working through the basics now to try and learn that “why” of things! Ok that’s great! I am definitely someone who needs small wins along the way!
