Mesh generated by skin modifier is a mess as soon as I try to extend the arms with Mirror modifier added. Mirror modifier is above  the skin modifier. I’m using  Blender 4.3.0.  Do I need a more recent tutorial?

Although it would seem crazy, if you want to follow along seamlessly, you should download the Blender version that is being used in the course. The version of Blender is in the end of no consequence, the knowledge is the same.

The skin modifier is a bit finicky, you can try to massage the vertices a bit, move them around and see things jump into place. Also change the root placement, that always helps out a lot. So basically extend the arms and when things get messy, try all of that.

          Hi Margaret @Marwil ,

The Skin Modifier is indeed a bit finicky, as Omar mentioned. It’s behavior hasn’t changed since the Course was made, though.

You might benefit from watching Modify, if you find you have problems with a certain Modifier, in this case: https://cgcookie.com/lessons/lesson-12-skin-modifier
