Kent, was wondering why your shoe_bake_DISP png is not in the source files? I looked in all the folders. I need yours, because I can’t get Blender to bake the DISP for the shoes. I’ve provided screenshots of the process. Blender tells me there’s no multires on the shoes, but there is. I also made sure to set the preview to 1. I also tried deleting the mirror modifier, which gets Blender to bake, but it bakes no info (all gray). . . as the last image shows. What in the crazy world?

Sheesh, I’m sorry to hear about more issues with this project for you @pointoflife14. But I opened the source file pancakeHobo_lesson04_finished.blend with stock Blender 2.79, added a new image for baking, clicked bake, and got exactly what I expected:

Are you using stock Blender 2.79 for this project @pointoflife14? I’m quite confused at this point why you’re having these issues when I can’t reproduce them immediately..

Yep, 2.79. I don’t know either dude. I did however figure out a way to get the DISP bake to work. I went to the multires modifier and at the bottom of the right column there is an option “Apply Base.” I discovered if I click on that Blender will bake the DISP. But then when it got to the part that requires the Texture Paint Layers add-on, since the Blender devs removed it from the current builds I just couldn’t follow along, and the shoes looked like garbage no matter what I tried. THEN, the stencil for the leather effects quit working, which was working jut fine for the shirt, pants, and skin, etc. I saved, rebooted, started a new file and appended…everything I could think of, but the stencil would not work again. I even tried to redo the pants and shirt stencil portion again, and still couldn’t;t get the stencil to work correctly like it did. I didn’t change anything. I’m radically stumped as well. So for the first time in like 5 years, I rage quit a Blender project. LOL
