              i merged the vertices using ‘By Distance’.   Using ‘By Center’ kept merging Top and Bottom together at the center in between them. That didn’t work.

              As I continue…..

                  Well, this obviously didn’t work to fix my jungle!….Wait, maybe it did.

                  What is wrong is in the one bite area. If I delete the vertex in between the top right point/corner and the following vertices, this should delete the two adjoining edges that connect down to the bottom vertices?   I will try this.
