Need help on Latch

At 17 minutes 30 seconds I am stuck.  I am trying to pull the single edge on the y axis but it just seems to be grabbbing the vertex next to it.  I don’t want to start over.  I selected the 3 faces for the latch and duplicated them.  It shows up in my collection.  I have latch selected and try to lengthen the latch but won’t work.  Is there a way to include screenshots of my project?  Thanks Jim

maybe magnet is on, and yee you can answer this post and add pictures with a picture icon in the top bar of answer tab, just upload them and then add

Remember though, starting over is essential, it is always a great choice to start over. When a mesh is a mess, cleaning it or trying to get the loops to flow another way or cleaning it or breaking stuff apart to redo, it’s always a waste of time and starting over is the best choice, not only is it faster but you learn a lot more, you learn of ways to not go about a mesh, you gain speed, etc. 

As Jaanus says, most likely snapping is on.

You don’t have to use the WYSIWYG buttons to insert an image. You can just copy paste images into the body of your message.

Or maybe it’s not Snapping, but Proportional Editing (shortcut O), that’s on.Or both, hard to tell from your description alone.
