      When I go to move the cube as instructed it only moves the widget, even though the cube is selected.

        Maybe you have Affect only Origins enabled:

          What about if you turn the widget off and move it with G? Does it stay stuck?

            I believe Martin must of been right, now that I’ve proceeded with the exercises (starting new projects fixed the issue initially), but it is good to know what went wrong … and now I’m learning about origins, knowing how to move it individually is also useful.
