I’m looking through tutorials I can find online, and having a real go at it, but a lot of them seem rather geometrically complicated (Unless it just straight up is).

I’ll keep looking and working, but for the time being I’ll ask for any ideas here.

I’ve worked out a method of doing it here via array modifiers and a lot of “what does this button do?”, but I am wondering if there is a non-destructive way? One where I wouldn’t have to apply my array mods. Additionally one where I could rescale the size of the holes, how many, or the size of the plane etc.

It might simply fall under the geometry nodes section of learning that I haven’t gotten to yet (and will leave for now as I’m still within the pothead course – which doesn’t cover geometry nodes. At least in the modelling chapter). And if that’s the case then I’m okay with that. If anything, it’s a bit of a dopamine hit when you find a new way of doing something much easier and faster! And sometimes it can be worthwhile learning things the hard way to understand what’s going on under the hood.

Or perhaps I use booleans and wait until I’m certain it’s looking good and then go and sort it out?

What I would also like to know, is if there is a quicker method of cleaning up, or simplifying the geometry in what I have got when viewing it in edit mode here.

Note: As I was typing this out I realised I could just remove the highlighted edge loops which answered my question. But if this is on a much larger scale it’s going to be super tedious, so I’ll leave this Q open.

      Cheers!

Hi! I’m not sure if I follow, something like this?

They way you have it’s fine, using an array. You just need one hole modeled and if you want to resize it it’s fairly simple to select the loops and scale the circle up or down. That’s the way I would do it, no fancy or complicated setup, straight good old poly modeling.

@cgtin along the lines of yeah! And Cheers Omar!

I’m about to attempt to apply it to this shape here. It’s a panel on the engine I’ve modelled for noodle head. Wish me luck!

if it is seen as a flat surface where you wont notice depth, you might as well use an alpha mask, and save a ton of geometry
