Is there any particular reason the mesh’s color lightens when dyntopo is enabled?

Other than making it apparent the setting has been enabled?

That’s a good question. I’m not aware if there is a certain reason…I assumed like you, that it was to indicate the mode was active.

This doesn’t happen with Blender 2.8x though.
