I am very confused as to why, but clicking while using a sculpting tool does nothing when I try. I select a tool, and click and drag and try everything, but it has no impact on the object. I am in sculpting mode, trying to sculpt a subserfed cube like the video but it’s doing nothing.

I don’t know the underlying reason, but it seems you need to click Apply in the subsurf modifier for the sculpting tools to work.

bdf369 is correct – You need to apply the subsurface modifier before sculpting. The reason being that when you sculpt on the cube + subsurf modifier, you’re not actually sculpting on the subdivided version. You’re actually sculpting on the original cube which only has 8 vertices to manipulate.

Wow, so glad I saw this answer. My brushes, other than the mask brush, did work…but not like they did in the lesson. and “mask” didn’t work at all. Once I clicked “apply” (which I THOUGHT I’d already done) everything worked great. Thanks for the help!
