Help please, I’m stuck with an unobedient child

How can I clear a child paren relationship, without moving the child. I have this

The object on the right is the child of the object on the left.

Whether I Clear Parent on the child, or Clear And Keep Transform, the cild moves:

How can i clear the relationship and keep the child in it’s place?

Some googling found mention of an apply_def.py script back in 2004. I can’t find it so I assume it’s now possible to do this in Blender. But how?

Ahhh, sorted it out I think. Ihave to move the cursor to the child object, then Clear Keep Transform works. 

Now to fix all the other children in the model…
