      Hello Blenders

I Hope you are all very well.

My Blender learning continues with a good mix of curiosity, amazement and bafflement.

My current issue is with the floating rocks in my animation – see image 1 where the red dot marks the spot

      1.png

The issue is that they are not floating in the blender file – see image 2 where the red dot marks the spot.

Image 01 is from the .mp4 file while Image 02 is from the .blend file.

      I Is Properly Baffled!!

      Any ideas, anyone?

      Thank you.

      My very best,

      Jason

        Hi @jasonwilde ,

Could it be that your ‘Ground’ has a Modifier (my guess would be a Subdivision Surface Modifier, but it could also be a Displacement Modifier, or both), that is enabled in the Viewport, but disabled in the Render? Look for the camera icons:

          Hey @jasonwilde ,

I think Spikey (Martin) is correct, If memory serves me correctly, there are 3 modifiers on the ground object,
A Subdivision , a Displace, and a Solidify. I suspect the culprit is the Displace.

Also make sure the modifiers are in the correct order. The Displace won’t work as intended if it is above the Subdivision.

Note: The Low Poly Rocket course was recorded with an earlier version of Blender. Although still relevant and a great course, there are some differences. The layout of the modifiers is one of those differences, the row of four icons Spikey is referring to, is now in reverse order.

Bonus Tip: To assist you further on your journey learning Blender, if it isn’t already, enable User Tooltip on the Interface section of the Preferences, which you can access via the Edit dropdown menu .
Then hoover your mouse over a tool, button or setting for a short explanation, before clicking.
This may help understanding what is happening with each click whilst following along in a lesson.

          Hope this helps!

          Happy Blending!

Thank you Martin Bergwerf and Adrian Bellworthy. Once again it’s very kind of you both to take the time to help in such a positive way. I will let you know how it goes. My very best, Jason

I’ve checked and the Modifiers are enabled in the render. There are 3 modifiers for each ground plane, a subdivision, a displacement and a solidify – in that order. If I change that order the ground layers get properly messed up. And I was so close. Back to the start for me. Onwards and upwards……..

                Hey @jasonwilde ,

The order of the Modifiers as you describe is indeed the correct one.

I don’t know of the top of my head, what else could be causing it, but if you’d be so kind to post a link to your .blend file (via Dropbox, Googledrive, or any filesharing service you like), I will have a look.

Hi Jason, thanks for the file!

                    It is this simple:

                    Craters.png

The Render uses only 1 Level of Subdivision…just increase that to 2, to match the Viewport.
