In version 4.3, I tried all the solutions, but none of them worked. Eventually, I found the problem: the light object placed in the middle of the scene doesn’t work. The light must be in front of the Grease Pencil object for it to work. So, you need to adjust the Y-axis position.

Hi there. I would recommend using Blender version 4.2 LTS (the latest bug fix version is 4.2.4 and is very stable) to do these exercises. Blender 4.3 has had a massive upgrade to Grease Pencil and alot gets handled a bit differently. I hope to release a quick video explaining some of the changes in the new year, but for best results, I’d advise using Blender 4.2

i have the same problem, adjusting the things to complain with 4.3 is been an interesting challenge so far, but the lights really don’t work..

[edit]: I removed the light and then put it back, and it worked.. so it’s not a 4.3 problem 🙂

I too have the same problem, but removing and re-adding the light didn’t work.

So I downloaded the LTS version to double check and it also doesn’t work there. Would you guys mind seeing what am I missing?

            Here’s the file.

[ Edit: ] Nevermind! I found the solution on the questions in the next lesson. Here’s the link: https://cgcookie.com/community/18285-my-light-emits-no-light

We have to enable the grease pencil materials to accept lights. It works without a problem on 4.3.2.

Yes, version to version, it’s annoying that sometimes, “Lights” is automatically on, then off. One version removed all interaction with world/global illumination which can be disconcerting until you realise that it “colors” your work. I’ll have to check where it is set on the latest release today, and I’mm make a note to check if this is a preferences thing that can be toggled. Good find!
