extrude vs solidify for thickening planks

Hello,

this is my first post but I am excited to become active in the CG cookie community!

I have watched CG Cookie’s other courses on the power of modifiers and how a non-destructive work flow is best. Would the solidify modifier work better at minute 13 when the treasure chest blanks are extruded?

The solidify modifer is a good option. I’m not sure either is “better” because eventually I’ll be editing the bevels and thickness uniquely per board.  Both valid options – good thinking!
