I want to extrude the outer edge of my model to get a “frame” around the whole plane that’s proportional? to the current model. Is there any way to do this without getting the ugly overlap of edges?
The ‘cleanest’ way, I know, is to Extrude the Boundary down, then Extrude the outside Face Loop along the Normals (ALT+S, S for Offset Even). Then Delete extra Vertices:
Also keep in mind that a lot of times some operations will give you dirty results, because of tiny things or unpredictable things like normals or poles and stuff, or just the way the geometry is built. So in those cases some manual tweaking will be necessary. So in short, not always the tools will give you that mechanical pitch perfect we’re looking for and we’ll have to adapt.
