Does the amount of bounce light change significantly by light angle (high, low, etc), and does the cast shadow reduce bounce light as well?

Yes, 100%. There are some many factors and variables that contribute to the bounce lighting including angle, intensity, distance, color, how many lights, etc.

So be aware of as many of these as possible and be sure to include them in your recreation.
