Does anyone know why blender decided to buck the trend of left click as the default selection button? I think this makes it difficult for beginners to get used to. It can also be confusing when watching some tutorials because a lot of people switch it to left click, while others leave it at right click.

I use many different CAD/CAM programs all day at work so I am used to navigating a 3D environment, but blenders workflow is so unique, it is a little bit difficult going back and forth between workflow styles.

All in all, I love blender (especially for the price). I just think there are a few simple things such as this that make the learning curve a little steeper than it needs to be.

Thanks Jonathan, That was a very good explanation. I still think they should have left click the default selection and right click the modification/action button. Just my opinion though.
