Do I use annotation now instead of grease pencil ?

@stevie57 , yes, what used to be called Grease Pencil is now called Annotate in 2.8.

Grease Pencil in 2.8 is its own Object and very useful for 2D drawing, but you won’t be able to draw on other objects like with Annotate.

Yeah.  If you just want to write notes and do scribbles.  That is what annotations are for.

If you want to do proper drawing, then use Grease Pencil.

Annotations got more simple.

Grease Pencil got a lot more powerful.

I don’t mean to post to an old post like this, but is this different now?
I can use the annotate on the surface just fine.
If I do it with the grease pencil it gets really weird…

When you turn Stroke Placement from Origin to Surface however…

It’s somehow thicker, and quite a bit off the model.

Has annotate improved for this use? It’s quite easier out of the box and can be done in edit mode unlike grease pencil it seems.

Hi @demonslayer112 ,

see the first two answers; the confusion is because of the naming.

Just use Annotations for what was called Grease Pencil before 2.8. It is mostly the same; the only thing you can’t do with Annotations, is Convert it/them to Curve(s), which can then be Converted to a Mesh…For that, you’d have to use 2.8+ Grease Pencil.
