Forum Archive › Did the whole forum just reverse itself?
|, if you have never read a thread before that is very long , then you would have to read the top of the first page to see what the post is all about , and then skip to the every end to read the first reply and then work your way upwards from the bottom of that page to the top and then through all the other pages in reverse order until you got back to the top of the first page…
True, but that would happen only once, Every other time you would have an advantage.

To be honest, and that might just be me, but the ‘Suggestions for new courses’ post has (now) 10 pages and even when it was ‘in the right order’ I never read through all the posts, that’s just too much even for me;)
This was requested and some people will love it and some people will hate it and others will just have to get used to it, what can you do?
A user preference setting would be great, but I have no idea how do-able that would be (maybe we are spoiled by the high configurability of Blender…).
Yeah man , I get you , thanks for the reply. I’m really just putting out ideas and voicing my own personal opinion 🙂
I don’t handle change well ha , but at least now I know its not a bug and can start getting used to it then if it’s here to stay!
Well Matthew, I was one of those people that voted for this change and I like it, but I still have to get used to it;)
And voicing personal opinions is always a good thing!
Sorry @frikkr
I’m not saying we were the ones who flipped the switch or even said to do it now, it just kinda happened overnight haha. I don’t even know if the change is permanent to be honest.
We were just getting tired of having to navigate to page 6 and to the bottom every time. Granted I would agree. An announcement that the change was coming could have been in order.
The concern regarding auto-navigation to new posts is something that the crew is definitely aware of. but apparently trying something new like flipping forum direction was a lot easier in the code for a start. I think there can be a forum topic dedicated to the community voting on the proper structure of a forum post layout. At the end of the day our voice sounds like it is being heard. Just look at what a small number of people were able to gethappen.
If people hate the new layout perhaps we could brainstorm what a good layout would look like. Or 3 different functional layouts and let the community vote which one they preferred. You won’t be able to make everyone happy but I think throwing a vote would be a good community way of.
@frikkr My apologies: The decision to reverse thread pagination was intentional. As mentioned it came about from the Backhoe thread which is an exceptionally long thread. It seemed like a simple enough change that made sense for that context but it seems likely that we implemented the change too soon or in a less-than-ideal way.
I think this issue is indeed made worse by the fact that thread notifications seem to have a problem linking directly to the relevant reply, defaulting instead to the first page every time. In hindsight I’m thinking this needs to be solved first.
I will talk with @nphaskins today about getting this sorted!
I wanted to repost this. It seems to be live today:
Guys and Gals I just had to share this. The @ mentions are working as we all dreamed they would. I click it and no longer have to look for the needle because CGCookie just gave us all Super Magnets!!!!
Forum notifications are now smarter and take you right to the posting!

What do you mean Shawn ? When I type @ and then a letter then I get a list of names starting with that letter just like it’s always done…or am I missing something?
No problem @theluthier , appreciate it. I’m sure there are many ways to go about it but you will struggle to find one that suits everybody. If I was to offer my personal suggestion then it would be a button at the top of every threads first page that takes you directly to the most recent post or something along those lines,.
I don’t hate the new format , I can easily get used to it , I just find it very un-natural reading conversations in reverse order. But that is only my opinion and there are many other people on here so just work things however suits you to try to cater for everyone 🙂
Oh sorry. I meant when you click one of your notifications that said someone @ mentioned you, then it takes you right where it happened. No more searching for that post that someone commented directly to you.
Ahh I get you , great news , thanks for pointing it out 🙂
Im lovin the new forum fixes. now I can just click on replies or mentions and it goes right to it. lol I had 58 events today.🧐
Looks like it works if you click on general replies as well. You just have to click on the reply and not the forum posting.
It also work on old posts!
Thank you Nick Haskins!
I’d vote for a party!
Don’t forget to invite Big Wes!
