Cut top bands for mirror just like bottom bands?

When the teacher applied a mirror modifier to the bottom set of metal bands, he added an edge loop right on the mirror axis. Why isn’t that necessary for the top set of metal bands?

It’s just a brief oversight in this video. I correct it in the next video here. My apologies! I know that’s confusing.
