Booleans would be my choice for this.
If you want to use the model in a game engine though, a texture would be the answer.
It does also depend on what your PC can handle. Modeling each slot would require much more geometry, potentially slowing down your PC if you want to animate it, like in the SESSIONS: Laptop lesson, where you might find some tips.
Another wild outrageous thought is to not model any of it… I know, right?
Imagine this… your laptop is sitting on a table top, no animation, just sitting there, open, ready to be used. Can you see it, in your imagination?
Now, can you see the underside of the laptop?
No? then why model it in so much detail?
This would be an example of the type of thought process when starting to model anything, decide on what level of detail you need before laying the first vertex.
