After finishing the course I think the only question that still remains for me is how to properly set up and apply shadow catchers, or how to track/play with perspective to add 3D elements (static or animated) into footage.

I think that might be out of scope for a Fundamentals course and probably why it was left out. But if you guys have any resources to recommend on this topic, I’m all ears!!

Shadow catchers would have been great to demo, but yeah, that struck me as a bit more outside of this topic and more in line with something like “Compositing CG into live action”. There’s definitely a lot out there on these topics, I think even on CG Cookie, maybe? I would love to do a much more complex, detailed compositing course one of these days!

Totally! It’s such a huge facet that I’m surprised you packed so much into the one course alone.

Definitely watching a next course if you make one. This one was awesome!

            HI Nathi,

on the CGCookie site, there are a few older ones (You can filter on Visual Effects, when you go to the 3 little lines on the top left  > All Courses)

            https://cgcookie.com/courses/compositing-a-3d-monster-into-a-live-action-scene

            https://cgcookie.com/courses/compositing-transformer-vfx-in-blender

Still a lot of good information there!

I totally agree. I would definitely like more courses from you. I just subscribed to your YouTube channel. Martin, thanks for the links. I’ll have to check them out. Nathi, keep asking questions I’m learning a lot from just your post 😀.

I think if I add any more questions the CG Cookie staff might quit lol 😂

Jokes aside, I’m glad my questions help Dwayne! Thank you for always coming in with clutch tips!

I recently did a super basic “Suzanne in the parking lot” shot and found these videos useful. I think they are older but they helped me get a good grasp of the process in spite of me knowing next to nothing about video.

CGMatter: (very in depth and he’s got other fun vfx videos as well) https://youtu.be/WLSGG7sDEac?si=wNE05rXk9E2ItSgn

@coyohti is that Ian Hubert as in the writer of the short tears of steel? I’ll have to check that out.

Wow! Great recommendations! Thanks for sharing @coyohti!

I miss the CGMatter videos that are not automatically in 2x speed 😅

@dillenbata3 – The same! He’s been working on a series of short films that I can highly recommend. Absolute craziness. I love them so much. 😀 I’m subbed to his Patreon and he cranks out some really amazing stuff. He’s also worked with Nathan Vegdahl to develop a variety of Blender addons and tools for filmmakers…stuff that mostly wooshes over my head but might be of interest to others.
