Clamping

Hello I am currently modeling a house. Trying to model a door and can’t seem to figure out why is my Clamping tool not working? I’ve tried selecting the door and pressed G 2x and then C (off) . It won’t move up or down but rather sideways which I don’t want.

Need to see the wireframe to see how the vertices will slide.

Edge Slide can slide the Vertices along each of the connected Edges (pre-visualised by yellow lines), if it is already going along the wrong Edges, C will ‘fix’ that direction, so you can’t switch to another Edge anymore..

C will constrain the movement to the direction you are already going.
So if you have moved your mouse sideways, even just a fraction, prior to pressing C then sideways it is constrained to.

You should see a yellow direction line when in edge slide, make sure that line is in the direction you want to slide before pressing C.

What exactly are you trying to do?

From the image it looks like you have at least 3 edges selected.
2 horizantalish edges and 1 vertical, they are not all going to slide in the same direction.

It looks like you don’t have edges that go up or down? That is weird. That tool slides along the edges so if there is no edges to slide it wont slide. You can also just move those edges on the axis you which to move them. So if it’s up or down just hit G and then Z and move them up or down.
