Yes the workflow has changed a lot since then. It’s a bit much to try and condense it all up on a post, I think the next best thing is to find an updated tutorial that goes through how to set up texture painting with today’s Blender, the PotHead tutorial should be enough, specifically this lesson, but it’s better to watch the whole texturing part:
