      Hey sorry never really had a need to use layers since being on blender 2.8 and now its come I cant seem to find out how to use layers

        Stop looking for layers in 2.8;) 

        They have been replaced by Collections.

          Check out the video here  : https://cgcookie.com/lesson/groups-and-collections it will explain how layers work in 2.8 (as Spikey says , they are now called collections)
