Can custom presets also save different preferences?

To save going back and forth into the preferences to change the middle mouse function from orbit to pan if I’m doing different types of work in blender (eg modeling and then grease penciling), can a custom preset also save the preferences? Or can a custom setup be made to change a number preferences instead of needing to change multiple? The word I’m thinking of is unfortunately slipping my tongue, but I’m thinking of creating different preference loadouts that I can select from a menu – it might be a bit tricky when it comes to addon’s. But can it be done for keyboard/mouse inputs?

It depends on the preference options you are wanting. A lot of options can be defined per application template. I believe keymap options is one of those. I’d have to look, but I think I could make an addon that would put the middle mouse options on the n-panel pretty easily. Of course I won’t be home until 8 hours from now since I’m at work.

I never thought about that. I have no idea, but you can look in the Blender Market, I bet someone could have done something like it. Or you can ask Adrian or Shawn, they dabble in addons making.

Just reread your post. You can create customized keymaps and save them in blender. Blender is very customizable. You can even assign what addons/extension are turned on for different work spaces. The only exception is add-ons that are at set above workspaces like render engine add-ons, and import/export add-ons. Those will always be on unless you go to preferences and turn them off. For example: extra mesh objects and extra curve objects can be turned on when you’re in edit workspace, but UCUPaint is turned off. Then when you switch to texture painting workspace both extra objects turn off and UCUPaint turns on. To set this up is pretty easy. Either on n-panel->tools tab or active tool tab of properties editor expand workspace panel check filter add-ons. Then check which add-ons you want to run while you’re in that workspace. Switch workspace and do the same for it. Again all the import/export and cycles render don’t have to be checked because they are set above workspace level. Some people still check them because it’s there preference.

Did you mean so that they appear in your start up, or from the file menu like this?

Or were you thinking more like a workspace like the tabs above the Viewport?
