      Hi m.wayne

I am trying to parent the bones but it doesn’t allow me to do that. Whenever I select the second bone to parent it doesn’t choose it

and when I used ctrl P I wasn’t able to choose from the given choices

I don’t know what am I doing wrong here

      p.s.

if you need screenshots please tell me

        Hi Samy,

I have a feeling that you might have created several armature objects (each with a bone inside), rather than 1 armature with several bones inside it.

This won’t let you parent them because they live inside a different object.
They be like “What, you’re my next door neighbour, not my dad”

Check the outliner for the object names.  If you have Armature, and Armature.001 .002 etc, then this is the reason.

Make sure you add new bones while you are in edit mode on one of the armatures.  If you are in object mode, you are just adding armature objects.

        Hope that makes sense.

          thank u very much

          it really helped

another issue is the b-bone automatic handles

I manage to link one handle and it moves perfectly but the bottom one isn’t parented right

when I parent it,it moves to the top and I don’t get why.fgsg.png

          p.s.

the who’s your daddy is a spot on lmfao xd

            Hi Samy
It looks like .003 is a child of .002 (and not connected)

I’m not sure which direction the bones flow (down to up, or up to down)
But if the bones flow from the top down, then because it’s not a connected parent, it won’t automatically affect the bending of the bone in the middle.

If it is meant to flow from the bottom to the top, there is a parenting error.  If you rotate the middle bone, both the other bones will follow.

Of course I’m just guessing from your image here, but I hope that helps.

                Hi Samy,

That is where bones are attached.  The Head of one bone is attached to the tail of the other.
If it is a connected parent, each bone still has a head and a tail, there are just in that same location and connect be disconnected (because of that setting).

If the bone are disconnected (but still parented) you will see the relationship line running between the head of the child to the tail of the parent.

You can turn this off, but I think it’s a good idea to leave it on until you are really comfortable with how things work.
I usually turn this off, but I know what it looks like if I have made a parenting mistake.

Hey Samy – I made you a video to help explain things a little more.

I don’t know why your bone can’t be translated, if you can figure out how to replicate this issue I can report it as a bug.
But I hope everything else makes more sense.

“I dont know what u have done to break it but well done u broken it” that made me laugh sooooooooo hard xd and for what it is worth again I didnt do anything except following ur lead and i will record a video going over it all again but give me some time

I have provided a video showing what I did and a brand new file so that we can determine what is wrong

In this new file: The bottom bone(Bone.002) needs to be the parent of the middle bone(Bone). You have it reverse. Of course I’m assuming you’re trying to use the default bendy handle type of automatic. Also you have 2 segments on Bone.002 which you don’t need.

                            Hi Samy,
You are trying to parent the bottom bone to the middle – but it should be the other way around.

                            Try this.

                              Hi

thank u so much for this explanation, it worked like magic.

one last question please, what is bendy bones used for? Is it for stuff that have bending qualities like snakes?

and again u guys rock and thank u a million times

Yes for things like a snake, tentacles, Tails, belts, etc. This way you can use just a few bones or even 1 in some cases and get the bending as if you had multiple bones. Each segment of a bendy bone deforms that section of the mesh. You’ll get a better understanding of this in chapter 5 Bendy stretch rig. You will build and armature with bendy and stretch effect and apply it to a mesh.
