Hi, what do you think of these two possible images to light match?

@tomaslapes I think they’re both good choices. Each has different colors of light which will be fun trying to match, so go with the one you like the most 😊👍🏻

@tomaslapes I agree with @smurfmier1985 .. In fact.. the one on the right was the one I used on my second attempt.

Hi, this is my submission to the light match exercise.

            What do you think?

@tomaslapes Great choice for light match. It’s a very strong character presentation. You also picked a good model for matching.

Overall it’s a good job matching – certainly in the right direction. A few notes:

              1. Shadow are sharper and darker than the source. The floor is the biggest giveaway where shadows in the source image are much softer. Also the left shadow in the source is barely there but it’s very dark in your render. This must mean that another light source coming from screen-left isn’t strong enough to nearly wipe away that shadow on the floor.
              2. The color of the key light is not as warm as the source. It’s quite yellowy-orange in the source and seemingly closer to white in your render.
              3. Key light position feels like it’s too much in front of the character, causing him to be flooding by that singular lamp more than any other. Whereas the source character has a lot of shadow play in the front, suggesting the keylight is directly above his left shoulder, pointed mostly straight down.
              4. Last thing is the framing. If you don’t need a 16:9 ratio, go ahead and chop off the empty space on the left and right like they did with he source render.

Still it’s a good effort in the right direction. It’s a B in my book for this part of the homework.

                @theluthier Hi,

what type of lamps should I use? In my result, I used sunlamps because I find area lamps hard to work with.

I don’t know why but with EEVEE I always have this washout look to everything I make.

Hi,even though I had a lot of school I found some time to finish this:D. It was really fun to shade this car.

@tomaslapes Tomas that is beautiful shading like that, good to read that you enjoyed, somehow it can be felt on the result

@tomaslapes A little late to the party.  The car looks pretty good.  The lighting match still feels off to me, but I’m not sure why.

@silentheart00  Yeah I know but I can’t figure out why.

@tomaslapes I know what you mean. I believe the reason is that for people who are used to Cycles and its out of the box global illumination, Eevee not having it (nor a great way to emulate it) is a confusing way to light. The first thing I do with Eevee is enable Ambient Occlusion because without it all shadows look washed out and nothing feels in proximity. That’s the kind of feeling I get from your render as well. Aside from AO be sure you use Area lamps and enable contact shadows at the bottom of the area lamp’s settings.

Your car is looking great! Seems like you harnessed Eevee quite well there. Overall you’ve done great work this week and you get an A from me.
