@smurfmier1985 @silentheart00 @theluthier @yukinoh1989 @thecabbagedetective Thank you all for your comments and your kind words. Let’s find out, how close we can get to Miranda’s inspirational picture. 😀

@theluthier Thanks for the advice. I have tried to rebuild your lesson from memory, but I am pretty sure there are some details missing. I will keep improving this scene over the next days and double check the result against your advices given during the live stream.

So, here is the ‘final’ version of today – Still early work in progress:

@bun-bun That’s looking shaarrrrrrp! Really awesome work. Can you link me to the HDRI you’re using?

              Homework – Week 2 – Part 1 – Light Matching #1

This is my final version for the light matching exercise #1.
After finishing this exercise, I don’t like my result and I believe I chose a bad example.
Planning to spend more time on light matching during next week, but this has to do right now.
Credit for the match lighting goes to Stavros Karagiannis on artstation.
And credit for the character mesh goes to Juan Pablo Bouza on blendswap, since I do not have any own models to match the original.

                Homework – Week 2 – Part 2 – Shading a car

I have tried a lot of different things and techniques, but ended up with this result:

If I had more time, I would tweak the lighting and optimise the car paint material. Also I would improve my emission material and make some tests with light- and reflection-probes.
                Maybe next week. 😀

Special thanks are going out to @nekronavt for being an awesome help with Eevee during the whole class and to Papa_Dragon from blendswap for providing this incredible model of a Lamborghini Aventador!

Also thanks to you all for providing feedback!

@bun-bun Your lighting match is pretty close on the yellow light, maybe a touch too saturated.  The hue looks pretty dead on.  The greenish light is too saturated and I think too intense of a light; it needs to be softer.  It looks like both of your lights are producing hard shadows so increasing the size should help to make softer shadows.  Good attempt.

Your car looks pretty sweet.  Nice shaders all around.  Good work.

@theluthier Nearlly missed your question – I am sorry!
I am using the Studio Small 06 HDRI from HDRI Haven, but it’s only providing some fill lighting for the whole scene.
My main sources of light are two area lights (orange and blue) and one sport light (white) with some additional lighting to fill the gaps.

@bun-bun Very nice work this week. A few notes on the light match:

                      1. Colors: Here’s some corresponding key colors that are different:
                      2. Shadow contrast: I get a general impression that the shadows are darker in the source, most noticeably below the chin. Also in the same area, the shadows are sharper than in the source.

Still really close: It’s a B on this first part.

Two words come to mind when I see your vehicle render: Sharp and Crisp. Now I mean that both positively but also as a slight criticism. Positively, your sharp render is bold and makes a strong statement. Values are varied and extreme: Dark blacks and bright whites. Critically, the sharpness looks unrealistically too perfect. Though I know with vehicles and product imagery it’s often desirable to be perfect. I personally try to avoid perfection because I see it as an enemy to realism and believability.

Overall it’s a fine render and my criticism is arguably into subjective territory. It’s an A in my book.

@bun-bun Wow! This a really impressive car render. The reflections and lighting look great! The specular highlights being picked up on the contours looks really slick too. Great job!
